St. Gerard Pastoral Council
Meeting Minutes Sunday, February 11, 2007, 9:00 a.m.
The meeting opened at 9:15 with a prayer by Father Alton.
Website
We discussed where we were with the website. It is up apparently and Father Alton encouraged people to check it out. Shirley reported that there will be a section on the history of the parish and as well as an interactive component for people to sign up to volunteer. The history section will also have pictures to illustrate the history.
Matt suggested that after church some Sunday we can teach people how to use the internet so that they can access the website. Kevin suggested that we post the minutes of the pastoral council meetings on the website.
Historical site designation
Joyce gave an update on our interest in becoming a historical site. Members expressed concern about potential restrictions that we should investigate. Father Alton felt that it would be useful to make the effort to proceed with the designation because it would get our name out into the larger community. Shirley mentioned the prominence of the Basilica of the Little Flower and that perhaps it is a historical society. People wanted definitive information on what’s allowed and what’s not. Shirley suggested that we have someone give us a presentation at the March council meeting.
Shirley asked that members attend the March 8th Centennial general gathering.
Centennial Celebration
Shirley gave an update on the centennial meeting last month and passed out a list of those who had volunteered for various functions of the centennial preparation. There is yet some lack of clarity of small group leadership because people signed up for more than one group.
The next council meeting will be held on March 25th at 9:15 and will be devoted to having a presentation on the historical site initiative. Shirley will get a speaker.
Father Alton closed the meeting with the Lord’s prayer at 10:06.
